About Us

Whilst classed as a charter town and being home to The Manor Arms, Broughton-in-Furness is smaller than most villages. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in the diversity of the creative minds that visit and live there, alongside the beautiful and breath taking sites that can be found here.

The Manor Arms has been owned and run by David, Christine and Scott Varty since 1988. In 2009 David and Christine retired, leaving the pub to their son Scott. The Manor Arms is incredibly proud of the reputation that they have earned, and strive to maintain their high standards in both the en-suite rooms that they provide to their customers & the products that they sell from the bar. With up to an astounding eight real ales, and the three still ciders that are available at any given time, The Manor Arms aims to provide a diverse range of choice for any customer who walks through their doors.

The real appeal of The Manor Arms is how it allows everyone and anyone a step backwards towards a more leisurely time. The Manor Arms provides a friendly and warm atmosphere for all to revel in and enjoy. With such a diverse set of creative minds, it is easy to get lost in the pleasant atmosphere and great conversation.

The Manor Arms is also the proud winner of the CAMRA Furness pub of the year, awarded to them in 2015, 2018 and 2019. The Manor Arms has also won the CAMRA Cumbria pub of the year award in 2013 and was featured in the final 16 pubs of the National Pub of the Year 2006!

The Manor Arms is based in the centre of the village, providing quality services to a community of writers, local workers and professional business people. The village is known as a haven for travelers and walkers who are eager explore the beautiful surrounding and to experience a genuinely relaxed lifestyle. The Manor Arms aims to provide a taste of that lifestyle, to allow any and all travelers who come through their doors to experience all that is on offer, and to truly enjoy themselves. For any travelers that are looking for a place to rest their head for the night, The Manor Arms provides refuge through their comfortable en-suite guest rooms, each room complete with colour televisions, facilities to make a beverage of your choosing and central heating. Accompanying this rather splendid experience is a delicious breakfast that is served in the comfort of you're room or, if you wish, served down in the bar. The Manor Arms has a choice of eight ales at any one time, with over one hundred and fifty ales in rotation annually.

Immortalised by William Wordsworth, the Charter is still read out every year in front of The Manor Arms. Here residents are warned that if they overstep the mark, the old stocks will be brought into use again!

Stocks aside, A warm welcome awaits you at the award winning, 17th century family run Free House, The Manor Arms. There is no better place to change your leisurely time into quality time than right here, at The Manor Arms.
